The Second Seminar of the Jean Monnet Chair UFMG happened between the 21st and the 23rd of March of 2016. The event, which had the partnership of various institutions such as the International Law Association, the Dom Helder Camara Superior School and the University of Itauna, was also the 3rd National Conference of the Brazilian Branch of the International Law Association. During the three-day event, about 80 teachers presented lectures on various topics of international law and about 800 listeners passed through the halls of UFMG, which was the seminar took place. There were about 25 panels formed, including European Studies, Latin American Studies, International Arbitration, International Trade Law, International Courts, International Environmental Law, Human Rights and Terrorism. The event had the presence of teachers from over 10 countries, as well as the Ambassador João Gomes Cravinho, head of the EU delegation in Brazil; Professor Celso Lafer, former Minister of Foreign Affairs (who made the release of his book, "Human Rights" during the event) and Professor Clélio Campolina, former Minister of Science and Technology. Held on November 17th of 2015 , the first Jean Monnet Chair UFMG Seminar was entitled "Europe in a Globalized World : Democracy and Fundamental Rights". The event was attended by distinguished academics such as Professor Dr. Carlos Francisco Molina del Pozo, from the University of Alcalá in Madrid; Professor Manuel Medina Ortega, former member of the European Parliament and Professor Dr . Terina Palacios, from University Cristobal, Mexico. Among the topics discussed were the Charter of Fundamental Rights, Democracy and Defense of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and the Mexico -European Union relations. After the speakers' lectures, which lasted from 19:00 to about 21:30, space was opened for students to ask questions to the teachers and make comments on the issues outlined. In celebration of "Europe Day", the UFMG Jean Monnet Chair will be signing a agreement of cooperation with the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais on the 9th of May, 2016. On that day, there will be a a lecture at the UFMG Law School, as well as several events at the Public Ministry, discussing themes related to the European continent.
